One of the inspiring stories we are honoured to share is from Les. Having witnessed endemic homophobia, racism, and sexism in the media and even at school, Les recalls a time when such attitudes were commonplace. Despite this, Les pursued a career in engineering with the hope of making the world a better place. He believes that promoting equality as an employer is not only the right thing to do but also beneficial for business, allowing us to access a diverse talent pool and support our employees to bring their whole selves to work. **Engineering a Better Tomorrow: A Workforce Committed to Equality** I’m old enough to remember endemic homophobia (and racism and sexism) in the media, and even at school, which would be scarcely believable now. This included negative coverage and police brutality towards Stonewall, standing for equality for people regardless of sexual orientation and gender. Many of us pursue an engineering career to help make the world a better place. Equality is one area where, as an employer, we can make a difference in the interests of being kind and fair to all of our people. It’s obviously the right thing to do. It is also good for business in helping us access a large and diverse talent pool, and to support our recruits to perform at their best, bring their whole self to work. I’m proud of what has been achieved over the years, with Pride being central to raising awareness and maintaining momentum, and it also happens to be the best party in London in my experience!
