As an engineering provider within this dynamic sector, our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint isn't just a choice; it's a solemn obligation. In this article, we invite you to delve into our journey towards sustainability and explore the core reasons why, as a company deeply entrenched in the energy industry, we take environmental stewardship with the utmost seriousness. At the dawn of the 21st century, the concept of corporate responsibility has evolved from a mere buzzword into an indispensable component of business ethics. While energy plays an essential role in advancing society, it also holds the key to addressing the greatest challenge of our time – climate change. It is in this intersection of opportunity and responsibility that our story unfolds. From ground breaking innovations in renewable energy to revolutionary breakthroughs in decarbonisation and carbon capture technologies, Kent has been at the forefront of developing solutions that can mitigate the environmental impact of energy production and consumption. Yet, we firmly believe that our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the services we provide. It must be reflected in our own operations, our values, and our corporate culture. Through one of the pillars of our sustainability strategy, Sustainability. by Kent, we are taking concrete steps to reduce our business's carbon footprint. This of course all begins with reliable data on which to establish a baseline for improvements. This has been completed for Scopes 1 and 2 and has been externally verified against the requirements of ISO14064-3. We now have a carbon accounting tool to continually gather our Scope 1 and 2 emissions data in order to track progress. When it comes to Scope 3 emissions, we are working with a partner to conduct a materiality assessment and develop a baseline data set. Kent has committed to achieving net zero across scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 2040. Whilst we cannot apply for approval of our net zero commitment with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), due to our work in the energy industry, we are aligning our net zero program to the SBTi Net Zero Standard. As well as a long-term commitment to net zero the standard also requires for near term targets to be set. In line with this a scope 1 and 2 30% reduction target, by 2027 has been set. A roadmap has been developed detailing the actions required, the timescales and action owners to achieve this target. From optimising our energy consumption, to introducing alternative energy sources to power our projects, to adopting sustainable business practices to minimizing waste, and introducing sustainability criteria for our offices, we've embarked on a journey towards a more eco-friendly and responsible future. Our dedication to sustainability isn't just a matter of optics; it's an integral part of our identity and a testament to our unwavering commitment to the planet's wellbeing. As a company rooted in the energy industry, we recognize the urgency and gravity of reducing our carbon footprint. Our journey is a testament to the belief that by leading through example, we can inspire change not only within our organization but throughout our industry and beyond. Together, we will stride boldly towards a more sustainable, cleaner, and brighter energy future.
