About the job:
Kent is looking for a Senior Civil & Geotechnical Engineer to be based in Woking.
The Senior Civil & Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for foundation design and geotechnical engineering by providing specialist geotechnical inputs to both onshore and offshore projects, developing engineering scopes for ground investigations, reviewing and analysing geotechnical data (new data and legacy), and providing geotechnical interpretation to generate reports and guidance to projects. In addition, the Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for developing and reviewing foundation, retaining structures and geotechnical structure designs and calculations, reports and other deliverables in accordance with the project plan.
This is part of a recruitment drive to develop and grow our Front End and Detailed Engineering capability in the UK. We are seeking high-calibre people for this key Engineering role who have talent, enthusiasm, and drive to influence and be part of our exciting expansion plan. The UK Engineering group will support a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in Low Carbon/ Energy Transition (CCUS, Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Offshore Wind, Waste to X, Emissions Reduction) as well as responsibly developing traditional international energy sector projects. Being confidently hands-on, particularly as we grow, collaborative (including international workshare and teamworking), and committed to a long-term career within a high-performing and close-knit team are some of the key qualities we are seeking.
We follow a hybrid working model that combines office and remote work, with a requirement to be in the Woking office four days a week. This approach supports the development of a strong and effective team dynamic within Engineering.
Skills & Responsibilities:
- Work as a specialist engineer on feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design, or EPC/ EPCM projects, onshore and offshore.
- Will be a subject specialist within the specific area of civil, foundation, and geotechnical engineering, onshore and offshore.
- Additional capability and experience within civil and/or structural engineering roles and tasks would be an advantage.
- Technically responsible within a project for Civil, foundation, retaining structure, geotechnical / soils engineering aspects of the project scope of work, including execution of project deliverables. Subject to project size, will coordinate and work with other Kent specialists and 3rd party consultants, including supervision, review and specific checking activities as appropriate.
- Capable of formulating resolutions to technically challenging and/or high-profile issues and communicating effectively with project engineers, project management, and clients.
- Undertakes specialist activities or reviews of civil and geotechnical engineering aspects, based on their high level of competency within civil and geotechnical engineering.
- Supervises, reviews and checks the Civil and geotechnical engineering activities.
- Works to the requirements of the Civil/ Structural Design Manual.
- Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from the original proposal/contract by raising technical queries and/or identifies trends and changes within the framework of management of change.
- Participates in engineering design reviews and provides all necessary geotechnical/civil input and support to the close-out of actions
- Reviews relevant ITB documents submitted for proposals, and Scopes of Works received from clients as and when required.
- Responsible for planning and identifying technical requirements through the project, as applicable to the role. Liaises with the CSA group manager on these matters.
- Liaises with Kent Global Execution Centre (GEC), as necessary in the execution of specialist role and to develop the project.
- Provides support to procurement/ proposals, including for ground investigations, geotechnical investigations, site surveys and specialist technical services, as required by projects. Prepares Scopes of Work, technical requisitions, reviews contractor/bid documentation, and provides technical bid evaluation support to ensure compliance. Provides technical oversight and guidance to the scopes of work during execution.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
- Master’s degree in engineering. Postgraduate and/or specialist qualifications in geotechnical engineering would be an advantage.
- Chartered Status preferred. Related experience working for Engineering/Client organisations in the Oil and Gas sector and/or Low Carbon Energy Transition industry.
- Experience with well-developed technical knowledge in the specialist field of civil engineering, foundations and retaining structure design, onshore and offshore geotechnical engineering within the energy, process plant and industrial development project sectors.
- Hands-on engineering tools and software skills capability, including: Staad-Pro, Mat 3D, Tekla TEDDS, hand calculations, MS Excel spreadsheets, MathCAD, SACS-PSI, L-Pile, GRLWEAP (or equivalents) etc.
- Additional capability in structural engineering roles and tasks would be an advantage.
- Exposure to consultancy, studies, FEED, detailed design and EPC projects.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable international and industry specifications, standards and codes for onshore and offshore projects in the UK and worldwide
